Why Hertha at all? The club was founded in 1892 by the brothers Fritz and Max Lindner and Otto and Willi Lorenz. Fritz Lindner reportedly got the idea for the name from a steamship called Hertha on which he had recently traveled with his father on the Havel. Its funnel carried the colors blue, white and yellow, which were promptly adopted as club colors.
